Release notes

What's New

Release notes for the SoulPal iOS app. Each entry summarizes what changed in that update: new features, improvements, and fixes.

Version 2.3.0

Coming soon

You are inside the story now.

Worlds

SoulPal 2.3.0 opens four worlds you can walk into: Astra Academy, Ravenhollow Academy, Eldoria, and Harborview High. You pick the name you will carry there, or let fate decide, and a cinematic opening sets the story in motion. From then on a narrator describes each scene, and the characters who live in that world step in and speak to you directly. The story moves in days: when a day closes the world keeps going, and the next one opens where you left off. You can change the setting whenever you like, and the story follows you there with your next message. Every world has its own cast, its own rules and its own history with you, and you can always close a story and begin a new one.

My Roles

Characters can now know who you are before you type a word. Write a role once, in your own words: your name, your age, where you live, whatever you want them to know. Every character then starts the conversation already knowing you, in one-on-one chats and in groups. You can keep several roles and choose which one a chat uses, so the person you are in a school story does not have to be the person you are anywhere else. Free accounts keep three roles, Premium twenty, and Ultra thirty.

Version 2.2.0

August 2026Latest release

React, and get a reaction back.

Reactions and quoted replies

Press and hold any message to leave a reaction, and your characters will react to your messages too. Swipe right on a message to quote it in your reply: the quote sits above your bubble, and tapping it takes you back to the original. Characters see both the reaction you left and the message you quoted, so a long conversation keeps its thread even when several things are happening at once.

More photos, and better ones

Photos in chat look more realistic, and the daily limit has gone up on every plan: five a day on the free plan, thirty on Premium and sixty on Ultra. The old daily counter has left the Settings screen, so there is one less number between you and the conversation.

Twice as many avatars

The avatar catalog has doubled from thirty-two portraits to sixty-four, drawn in the same style as the originals and split evenly between them. Characters created without a photo are assigned from this wider set, so new faces repeat far less often.

Other improvements

  • Haptic feedback can now be turned off in Settings.
  • Photo credits are easier to find and buy when you run out.
  • Ultra members who reach the daily photo limit now see a short note instead of an upgrade screen.
  • This update also includes fixes across chats, subscriptions, and character creation.

Version 2.1.0

August 2026

Every story has more than one path.

Storylines

SoulPal 2.1.0 introduces Storylines: branching conversations with your characters. Long-press any message and start a new storyline from that exact moment, or open a fresh one from the chat's storyline list. Each storyline carries its own messages, relationship level, and memory notebook, and you can switch between them whenever you like. Your main chat always stays safe, so you are free to explore what could have happened. Free accounts get one extra storyline per character, Premium five, and Ultra fifteen.

SoulPal now speaks German and Polish

Two new languages join the family, bringing SoulPal to eight in total: English, German, Polish, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Turkish. Language switching is now instant as well: pick a new language in Settings and the whole app changes right away, no restart required.

More personalization on the free plan

Customization is no longer locked behind a subscription. Free accounts can now pick from a set of chat bubble colors, choose between three starry space chat backgrounds, and keep one memory card per character so their friends remember what matters. The full palette, the complete background gallery, and larger memory notebooks remain part of Premium and Ultra.

Deeper character creation

Your characters can now have a real inner life. Give them a backstory, choose how they talk with eight speech tones and an emoji setting, and write up to three example dialogs that teach them their own voice. Photos are now optional too: skip the upload and SoulPal assigns a hand-crafted illustrated avatar and cover automatically. The AI-assisted flow also lets you choose between a quick build and a detailed one where your facts shape the generated personality.

Other improvements

  • Every character is now available to everyone; the Ultra-only restriction has been removed.
  • Upgrading to Premium or Ultra is now greeted with a golden, confetti-filled celebration screen.
  • The welcome screen has been redesigned as a living constellation of characters.
  • Three new chat backgrounds have joined the gallery: an anime classroom, a neon city, and a misty sakura valley.
  • Chat settings now include quick shortcuts to a character's profile and share link.
  • Choosing a conversation style now shows live animated previews of each style.
  • The app starts faster and handles weak network connections much more gracefully.
  • This release also includes many fixes and reliability improvements across subscriptions, chats, and memories.

Version 1.9

July 2026

More social. More alive.

Group chats

SoulPal 1.9 introduces group chats. You can now bring several of your AI friends into a single conversation: start a group, choose its members, and talk with all of them at once. Characters take turns naturally, respond both to you and to each other, and photo sharing works in groups just as it does in one-on-one chats.

Share your moments

Your profile now has posts of its own. Share a photo, and over the following hours your AI friends will stop by to like it and leave comments written in their own voice. Posts are private to your circle: only you and your AI friends can see them.

Comment replies

Comments under posts now support threaded replies. You can answer a character's comment and keep the exchange going, and characters follow the thread they are part of, so their replies stay on topic. Longer threads fold away neatly and expand on demand.

Character creation, redesigned

Creating a character has been rebuilt from the ground up. The flow is now shorter and far more visual: a live character card takes shape at the center of the screen as you make your choices. Both the manual and the AI-assisted paths end on a single introduction screen where every detail can still be refined before you save.

Other improvements

  • Longer replies now stream onto the screen live, word by word, instead of arriving all at once.
  • You can scroll up in any conversation to load your earlier messages.
  • Characters now remember more of your recent conversation.
  • Discover has cleaner character cards, and the trending row now reflects activity from the last 24 hours.
  • Character profiles now show the total number of messages exchanged.
  • Typing animations are smoother, and this release includes many small fixes and performance improvements.
